Business Studies

If you have already established the high level approach for your project and you wish to develop a more detail understanding of your proposed business solution, our Business Study service can deliver a detailed and prioritised set of requirements on which you can procure or build a solution against. We synchronise the business study conclusions with the prevailing enterprise architecture.

For a Business Study our methodology delivers a standard set of deliverables:

Introduction

In which we present:

  • background of the proposed study;
  • the methodology used for performing the study;
  • any reference materials used in conducting the study.

Overview

In this, we present the proposed solution in summary terms:

  • the business objectives of the proposed solution;
  • the "As Is" and "To Be" enterprise architectures;
  • the transition strategy for migration from the "As Is" position to the "To Be" position;
  • outline delivery plan for the transition;
  • costs and benefits.

Business Architecture

In this deliverable we present a fully articulated "To Be" business architecture. Each of the following views are defined with their elements defined sufficiently to enable development of operating procedures, governance and controls beyond the business study:

  • organisational locations;
  • organisational structure and governance;
  • roles and responsibilities of key staff;
  • business volumetrics;
  • the supporting organisational culture as appropriate.

Technical Architecture

In this deliverable we present a fully articulated "To Be" technical architecture. Each of the following views are defined with their elements defined sufficiently to enable development and operation of the technology solution beyond the business study:

  • applications;
  • integration;
  • data;
  • physical hardware and network infrastructure;
  • security.

We present the business-oriented, build-related and operational system qualities sought for the solution. We also identify architecturally significant functional requirements that should be considered in any broader context beyond the proposed system. For each specific application, conceptual use cases will outline the functionality required to support the business processes. Each use case will be prioritised and assigned into a recommended phase of delivery. Supporting the use case models, a class model will be provided to illustrate the information needs.

Transition Strategy

The Transition Strategy will describe the stages of transition from the "As Is" position to the "To Be" position. As a roadmap, the strategy will state the rationale for the recommended stages and the transformations to be achieved from both the business and technical architecture perspectives. Additionally, costs of transition and benefits to be earnt at completion of the stages will also be provided.

Delivery Plan

The Delivery Plan supports the Transition Strategy and fleshed out the detail work packages that are required to enact the strategy. It describes the deliverables, effort, duration and resources required for each work package.
