How do we guarantee that a delivered system does what it says on the tin?

But without it how do we perform impact analysis in a forward or reverse motion during the system development lifecycle? Traceability is about ensuring that the requirements are realised, looking at a solution and seeing which requirements have been met and knowing that if the requirements are changed, what’s the impact!
